Job Title:                 Attendance Outreach Support Assistant (Part-time)

Reports To:             Mental Health Coordinator

Terms:                     Part-time (20 hours per week), Non-Benefited Position, Daily Hours are To Be Determined, 10 months

Salary Scale:           Instructional Assistant Scale

FLSA Status:           Non-exempt

 

 

SUMMARY

The FCPS Attendance Support Assistant position will work under the supervision of the district’s coordinator of mental health services, with the support of the school social worker and the student outreach and intervention specialist, to assist and improve student attendance in all school buildings. They will serve as a liaison between home and school with PK-12 students in order to alleviate the personal, academic, and or social difficulties that may be interfering with the student’s educational progress.

QUALIFICATIONS

A valid Virginia Driver's license is required. Must be able to be an approved driver by having a driver transcript reviewed as well as passing a physical and drug screen.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Individuals must be highly qualified to be considered for this position.  There are three options to meet the designation of highly qualified (one of the three must be met):

  1. Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; OR
  2. Obtained an associate (or higher) degree; OR
  3. Meet a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing, readiness, and mathematics readiness). An example includes the ParaPro Assessment. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
