Contract: 10 month position
Summary:
Fluvanna County Public Schools is seeking a Pre-Engineering Teacher for their Certified Project
Lead the Way Program (PLTW). The courses offered will include: Introduction to Engineering
Design, Principles of Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Computer Integrated
Manufacturing.
Duties and responsibilities of the Pre-Engineering Teacher include but are not limited to the
following:
- Under general supervision of a principal and/or other designated administrator, plans and implements instructional programs designed primarily to prepare and train youth for gainful employment or entrepreneurship in pre-engineering careers following high schoolor college; to perform ancillary functions in support of these instructional programs in pre engineering.
- Provides pre-engineering instruction that is realistic in terms of current and future job specifications using the Project Lead the Way curriculum. Utilizes a variety of teaching methods which will promote the attainment of desirable goals by each student.
- Cooperates with local career counseling and guidance personnel. Assists all pre engineering students to make informed decisions regarding personal occupational goals in pre-engineering. Provides related instruction with field, shop, laboratory, cooperative work, or other occupational experience that is appropriate to the career objectives of the student.
- Assists all pre-engineering students to plan, develop, and conduct engineering experience activities appropriate to their occupational goals. Supervises the pre engineering experience activities of all students through on-site visitation wherever the activities occur by observation and conference with students, employers, and parents.
- Evaluates students’ progress toward achieving their occupational goals and reports to parents and district administration.
- Meet all state requirements for CTE and Project Lead the Way programs.
- Collaborate with community members to enrich opportunities and resources available to students.
- Prepares students to successfully complete industry credentialing examinations, PLTW end of-course exams, and PLTW Dual Enrollment exams.
Successful candidates must hold a Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional license
issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with an endorsement in Technology Education.
Preference will be given to candidates who are certified by Project Lead the Way. Successful
candidates who meet all other qualifications for endorsement will be required to become
certified for Project Lead the Way.
Career and technical education – technology education endorsement requirements
The candidate must have:
1. Graduated from an approved teacher preparation program in technology education;
2. Completed a major in technology education or 39 semester hours in technology education distributed in the following areas:
a. Technology and culture (experiences shall include the historical development of technology and its present and future impact on the individual, society and the environment): 6 semester hours;
b. Technological foundations (experiences shall include technical design and illustration,energy and power, electronics, and materials science): 12 semester hours;
c.Technological processes (experiences shall include technical design, material processing, manufacturing, construction, and graphic communication): 12 semester hours; and
d. Technological systems (experiences shall include communication, production, and transportation systems): 9 semester hours; or
3. Earned a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a
major in one of the following fields of study: architecture, design, engineering, industrial
technology, or physics; and completed 12 semester hours of technology education content
coursework, including at least 3 semester hours in each of the following areas: technology and
culture, technological foundations, technological processes, and technological systems.

10 month contract.
