Job Title:                 Teacher - Health and Medical Sciences 

*Required License: Virginia Teaching license with the Nursing Aide endorsement and an active RN license in VA, specific experience requirements per the VA Board of Nursing- see details below)

Location:                 Fluvanna County High School

Salary:                    Commensurate with Experience

Contract Length:    10 month

Summary:

The courses offered may include:  Nurse Aide I, Nurse Aide II, Medical Terminology/Nutrition, Introduction to Health Occupations. 

Duties and responsibilities of a Health and Medical Sciences Teacher include but are not limited to the following:

Collaborates with community members to enrich opportunities and resources available to students.

 

Education/Experience

 

Must hold a Collegiate Professional, Postgraduate Professional, or Technical Professional license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with an endorsement in Nursing Aide or Practical Nursing.  A master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in health care preferred.  

 

*Must hold an active RN license in the state of Virginia. 

 

The Virginia Board of Nursing also requires that Nurse Aide instructors:

1.       Be a registered nurse who holds a valid, unrestricted license in Virginia or a multistate licensure privilege.

2.       Have two years of experience as a registered nurse within the previous 5 years and at least one year of experience in provision of long-term care facility services.  Such experience may include, but not be limited to, employment in a nurse aide education program or employment in or supervision of nursing students in a nursing facility or unit, geriatrics department, chronic care hospital, home care or other long-term care setting.  Experience should include varied responsibilities, such as direct client care, supervision and education.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Demonstrates command of Standard English, both spoken and written

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals.  Ability to write reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of teachers, parents, students, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid certification to meet State requirements with specific endorsement in the area to which assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

10 month contract.  

EVALUATION  Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of personnel.
