Job Title: Substitute Custodian
Salary Scale: $102.00 Daily Pay Rate, Substitute, Non-Benefited position

Reports To: Principal, Executive Director of Human Resources
SUMMARY
The substitute custodian will work in the absence of a regular custodian. Assignments and locations may vary daily based on the needs of the school(s) and division.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, wax, dust and vacuums assigned area(s).
- Scrubs and disinfects toilet doors daily and cleans drinking fountains, urinals, toilet bowls, and other fixtures daily using such materials as will keep them in a clean and sanitary condition.
- Wash windows, desks, tables, and chairs.
- To be on duty when events are scheduled outside of the regular school hours (if requested).
- Empties and cleans trash and garbage containers.
- Maintains building, performing minor and routine painting and other related maintenance activities.
- Replaces air conditioner filters and clean vents.
- Notifies school officials concerning the need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
- Cleans snow and debris from the sidewalk.
- Mows lawn, trims shrubbery, and cultivates flowers.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or designated supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or GED; up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, emails, and text messages. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid Virginia Driver’s license required.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
