Contract Length: Called as Needed, Daily substitute in the absence of a regular bus driver

SUMMARY
To transport students safely, efficiently and economically to and from school on a daily basis and to extracurricular events on a non-regular basis. Transport students to and from school following state and local regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Conducts pre-trip inspection of school bus prior to every trip for defects.
- Uses established routes and designated bus stops.
- Operates bus on approved time schedule.
- Conducts emergency evaluation drills in keeping with division regulations.
- Instructs riders regarding being responsible passengers.
- Reports bus accidents and student injuries to authorities.
- Drives safely with students as the first priority.
- Performs bus housekeeping duties inside and out.
- Demonstrates knowledge of rules and regulations, promulgated by local, state and federal authorities.
- Demonstrates the ability to deal with exuberant behavioral characteristics of youthful riders.
- Administers disciplinary procedures in keeping with school board policies and administrative regulations.
- Complies with the appropriate dress code.

- Valid Virginia Driver's License (Required);
- GED or High School Diploma (Required);
• Hold or obtain a Virginia Commercial Driver’s License with required endorsements (training provided);
• Ability to communicate with administration, staff, and the public in a professional manner;
• Knowledge of state and federal regulations applicable to transportation of students.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to operate radio communication when necessary and ability to operate all vehicle types used in transporting students.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Virginia Driver’s license.
High school diploma or GED equivalency.
Meet school bus driver certification requirements (minimum hours of instruction and satisfactorily pass knowledge examination)
Meet state requirements for appropriate licensing.
Meet State physical examination requirements.
Meet local or State standards for driving test.
Meet local or State standards for driver record check.
Successfully completed the National Red Cross First Aid Course.
