Summary:
The Piedmont Regional Education Program (PREP) seeks to hire a part-time Autism/Behavior Consultant to provide Autism and behavior support in participating school divisions based on the needs of the overall program and participating localities.

Compensation: $31,492 - $50,180 for 120-day contract. Compensation is commensurate with years of related experience; advanced degree supplements are available as determined by the PREP Joint Board of Control.
Primary Function:
To assess, develop, coordinate, and facilitate the implementation of an instructional, behavior management and related services program that will provide an appropriate education for students identified with disabilities, including autism, that are experiencing behavioral problems in the public-school setting.

- Autism/Behavior Consultant Performance Objectives:
- Provide leadership in the development, understanding and promotion of educational objectives, curriculum and instructional strategies associated with effective programs for students with disabilities that are experiencing behavioral challenges.
- Using evidence-based practices, including applied behavior analysis and structured teaching, provide consultation with teachers, support staff, and administrators in the coordination of specialized services for students experiencing behavioral challenges.
- Keep informed on the latest research, trends, and developments in the field and disseminate information to teachers and other appropriate staff members.
- Collaborate with division staff to assist with and provide professional development and coaching on evidence-based practices and assist with data collection and analysis.
- Assist in determining the types of programs/services needed by the students and make recommendations through the implementation of appropriate assessment and evaluation techniques.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in Special Education, Psychology or School Social Work from an accredited college or university
- Valid Virginia special education teaching license
- Three years successful public-school experience in program(s) serving students with disabilities experiencing behavioral challenges.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Board Certified Behavior Analysist
- Training and experience in Structured Teaching
- Certificate in de-escalation techniques (e.g., MANDT, CPI, Handle with Care)
- Training in and experience with trauma-informed care
