Description

Fluvanna County Public Schools seek to hire part-time Bus Aides in the Transportation department.

Reports to:       Transportation Supervisor

Location:           Fluvanna County Public Schools Operations Center

Salary Range:    $14.35 Hourly, Part-time, non-benefited position

  • Daily hours for this position are split throughout the day.  Approximate times are 7:30 AM - 9:30 AM and 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM.  Times may vary as needed.

  • Duties and assignments may vary depending on the changing needs of the school and school division.

SUMMARY

Assists with the safety of handicapped students loading and unloading, and en route to and from school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Operates hydraulic-life equipped bus for the purpose of loading and unloading of wheelchair confined students or others needing assistance.
  • Secures each student into his/her location with harnesses, seat belts, wheelchair locks or other safety equipment as required. 
  • Maintains discipline in keeping with the school division regulations.
  • Instructs riders regarding being responsible passengers.
  • Reports personal absences in time for the supervisor to secure a substitute aide.
  • Knows the physical and/or emotional handicap of each student on the bus.
  • Is alert and exercises good judgment concerning emergencies, disabled vehicles and irregular special requests by parents of riders.

  • Valid Virginia Driver's License (Required);
  • GED or High School Diploma (Required);
  • Ability to communicate with administration, staff, and the public in a professional manner;
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations applicable to transportation of students.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to operate radio communication when necessary and ability to operate all vehicle types used in transporting students.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Virginia Driver’s license.

High school diploma or GED equivalency.

Meet state requirements for appropriate licensing.

Meet State physical examination requirements.

Successfully completed the National Red Cross First Aid Course.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.  The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of  personnel.
