Fluvanna County Public Schools seek to hire Substitutes in various positions.

Job Title:                  Substitute

Reports To:              Principal, Executive Director of Human Resources    

Salary Scale:            Daily Rate of Pay, Non-benefited position - Pay rate varies based on assignment, degree, and license  http://fluco.org/human-resources-salary-scales/     Substitute positions include the following:

  • Teacher substitute
  • Non-teaching position/assignment
  • Instructional Assistant substitute 
  • Support Assistant/Recess Aide substitute 
  • Homebound Instructor $35.00 per hour (may require licensure/credentials)

   

SUMMARY

The substitute teacher will work in the absence of a regular teacher.  Assignments and locations may vary daily based on the needs of the school(s) and division.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Supervision, care, monitoring, implementation of plans, and providing instruction of students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

  • Follows instructional plan and visual schedules developed by the classroom teacher and/or specialist.

  • Records attendance, maintains accurate records, and incident reports.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Virginia Driver’s license.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Experience working with children preferred.

Complete the Fluvanna County Public School Substitute Training Workshop prior to the start of employment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must be able to lift overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally. Lifting or moving children to wheelchair, table, desk, or bathroom.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to push items of 50 pounds such as pushing a child on a bike or swing, or moving/rearranging furniture. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Must be able to work both inside and outside and within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.  Interruptions are routine and flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment under stressful conditions. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Daily assignment/daily rate of pay.  The rate of pay is based on the assignment, degree, and/or Virginia Teaching license status.
