Summary:
The Piedmont Regional Education Program (PREP) seeks to hire an Assistive Technology Specialist who is knowledgeable of assistive technology and experienced in working with students with disabilities. The Assistive Technology Specialist will serve multiple localities within the PREP based on the needs of the overall program and participating localities (i.e. Albemarle, Charlottesville, Culpeper, Fluvanna, Green, Louisa, Madison, Nelson and Orange).

Salary Range: Professional Salary Scale: $52,487.00 - $81,634
Salary is commensurate with years of related experience; advanced degree supplements are available as determined by the PREP Joint Board of Control
Primary Function:
To provide expertise and support in planning, coordinating, evaluating, implementing, and monitoring assistive technology in participating school divisions in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act.
Performance Responsibilities:
A. Professional Performance Objectives.

- To use instructional and planning time effectively.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds, walk an average of one mile per day, climb flights of stairs as needed, sit for extended periods in a car, and transition from standing to the floor and back.
B. Assistive Technology Specialist Performance Objectives.
- Assist in determining assistive technology needs for each participating school division.
- Coordinate with district staff to provide professional development and support for assistive technology tools and services
- Collaborate with participating school district’s technology departments
- Support Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
- Remain current with new assistive technology tools and supports
- Support teams in facilitating assistive technology assessments as requested
- Teach students and support staff how to use specific assistive technology tools and strategies
- Provide professional development to small and large groups on a variety of assistive technology topics
- Work collaboratively with other PREP departments
- Manage assistive technology lending library
- Provide other duties as assigned
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities via the Teacher Performance Evaluation System.
Required Qualifications:
- Masters degree or higher in Special Education, Speech Language Pathology or other related field from an accredited college or university
- Three years public schools experience in programs serving students with disabilities
- Knowledge of current assistive technology devices (low and high) and services
- Demonstrate superior computer skills and knowledge of hardware and software applications
- Ability to work with educational teams and communicate effectively (oral and in writing)
- Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of children with learning, cognitive, hearing, visual, communication, and physical disabilities in the educational setting
- Experience implementing Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
