Job Title:     Cafeteria Worker

Reports to:  Cafeteria Manager

Primary Duties:  The cafeteria worker is responsible for all aspects of preparing and serving meal items as well as maintaining food service facilities in a safe and sanitary condition.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Follow work schedule as assigned by manager.
  • Operate all equipment used in food service.
  • Prepare food according to USDA nutritional requirements and projected forecast.
  • Serve menu items in accordance to USDA serving size requirements.
  • Evaluate food for flavor, appearance and temperature control.
  • Inventory food, materials and supplies to ensure availability of items for menu.
  • Cashier during meal service, ensuring that each meal is USDA reimbursable.
  • Receives food and non-food supplies from vendors.
  • Store food, materials and supplies according to VDH & VDACS requirements.
  • Clean all equipment and areas used in food service according to VDH, VDOE & VDACS.
  • Record daily usage of menu items, including leftovers.
  • Follow all VDH, VDACS, ServSafe & FCPS safety guidelines.
  • Assist other personnel, as needed, to ensure an efficient and effective work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, reach, bend and carry under some temperature extremes and some potentially hazardous conditions. Must be able to perform and tolerate the following: 

  • Above average heat in work area.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Walk 100 feet carrying 30 pounds.
  • Push and/or pull carts while walking.
  • Reach above shoulders and lift 20-30 pounds.
  • Climb steps, stools, ladders and lift 20-30 pounds.
  • Stand for prolonged amounts of time.
  • Exposure to or contact with potentially caustic cleaning materials. 

Requirements/Qualifications: 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical equations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.      

WORK ENVIRONMENT  

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions;varying and extreme temperatures, potentially hazardous conditions, moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

10 month contract. Terms may vary based on the needs of the school and division.

EVALUATION  

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of classified personnel.
